Tolima Grande

This story takes place in a natural region, called Tolima Grande. This included two departments Huila and Tolima. It is located between central and eastern ridges. Tolima capital is Ibague.

Tolima has Magdalena river; It is the most important river in our country, it crosses eighteen departments and has a big variety of fish. 

Its weather is stifling and scorching, the temperature is between 22°c and 35°c.

Culture

Ibague is called ‘The Colombia’s Musical Capital’. The music has a big role in the economic development, and it is very important for Ibaguereños.

Typical Food

Tolima cuisine is one of the richest and most varied in the country.

Lechona is a pork stuffed with rice, peas, and pieces of meat. All of these cooked in the oven for 4 hours.

Tamal is a mix of rice, peas, pork and chicken, wrapped in banana leaves. They are usually eaten for breakfast or for a main course  and are always delicious accompanied by a chocolate drink and bread.

Sancocho de gallina is a soup with potatoes, cassava, chicken and cilantro.

Achiras is like a cookie.
